The first book is perhaps the most significant event in an author’s life. Very few literary prizes focus on the first book an author publishes. Here, we hear some of the foundations which award prizes to authors on their first book itself and the authors who have received those prizes.

  2. Nilanjana Roy – Winner of the 2013 Shakti Bhatt First book Prize for her debut novel The Wildings ( Aleph ), a starling narrative in which the characters are street cats in Delhi’s Nizamuddin East.
